Leading back to before US Prohibition, there was a man by the name of William Walker who was a pre-eminent whisky broker of his time. He began to advocate the whisky trade to American businesses in 1933. He ingrained himself with people and the way of life in Islay, before building a homestead for himself. In 1951, Stanley P Morrison LTD was formed, with Walker’s son-in-law now in charge. He would come to acquire Bowmore in 1963, after a lunchtime encounter. We are guessing there was whiskey involved?! Continuing to build up steam through the generations, the distillery, while new, is still booming today! This bottle is a lovely marriage of Islay’s untamed smoky nature and the refined fruitiness of Bordeaux wines. The nose starts with spice, smoke and red fruits, followed by milk chocolate, sea water and mint. You’ll find notes of berries and cherry compote with some cigar ash on the palate, finishing with warm smoke and fruity aromas.
