Whisky making has been happening on the Macallan estate for centuries and there’s a bit of a clue in the name as to why. Macallan comes from a combination of two Gaelic words – “magh” meaning fertile ground and “Ellan” after the church of St. Fillan which was located on the Macallan lands. This fertile land used to produce extra barley which gave the farmers a good excuse to make whisky with the leftovers. From humble beginnings the Macallan brand has grown to be the third best-selling malt whisky in the world! As part of their celebrated Speymalt series, Gordon and Macphail have bottled up this stunning single malt, distilled all the way back in 1978!
