The Macallan estate has been home to whisky makers for centuries. The fertile soil there often produced an oversupply of barley. Not wanting to waste anything, the farmers would use the leftovers to make whisky. In fact the ground was so fertile that the name Macallan comes from a combination of two Gaelic words – magh” meaning fertile ground and “Ellan” after the church of St. Fillan which was located on the Macallan lands. These days Macallan is the third best-selling malt whisky in the world. They’re strongly committed to the art of cask maturation, with the task of sourcing, toasting and seasoning casks falling to the Master of Wood. The Sherry Oak range is matured in hand-picked, seasoned sherry casks from Jerez. This gives Macallan 25 Years Old Sherry Oak 2023 Release a nose of vanilla, sherry, dried fruits and butter. The palate shows citrus, dried fruit, nuts and wood smoke. The finish is long with a touch of orange peel and smoke.
