While the rest of the world was jumping around to the sounds of Chuck Berry and Elvis Presley, Macallan was getting back into the swing of whisky making. WWII had severely disrupted the supply of Spanish oak sherry casks, but now in the new post-war era they became readily available again and Macallan went back to using only first and second fill casks. This gave the whisky a rich and spicy quality with a hint of peat smoke. In an effort to recreate that style, Macallan’s Master Distiller has sampled those 1950’s Macallans and selected recent distillations that recapture the 1950’s characteristics. The sherry notes come through on the nose of the Macallan Fifties along with dried fruit and clove. The palate has a rich sherry flavour with the dried fruits returning this time accompanied by toffee and wood. The finish is warm, spicy and smoky. The perfect drop for Rockin’ Round the Clock.
