Mars Single Cask Number One Cask #1664 is a single cask malt from the Mars Shinshu distillery, bottled by the Number One Drinks Company to celebrate its 10th anniversary. The whisky was distilled in 2013 and matured in bourbon barrel #1664, before being bottled in July 2016 at 58.9%. Number One Drinks is a whisky distributor and bottling company that specializes in exclusive Japanese whiskies. It was founded in 2006 by David Croll, Noriko Kakuda Croll and Marcin Miller. In 2011, Number One Drinks acquired the last casks from the legendary closed distillery Karuizawa and in 2014 the company opened its own distillery, Kyoto. The Mars Shinshu Distillery was established in 1985, mothballed in 1992 and resumed production again in 2011. It recently underwent a large renovation project, which was finished in September 2020. Fun fact: Mars Shinshu is located about 800 meters above sea level, making it the highest whisky distillery in Japan!
