Faq Plastic is a new project from Velier CEO Luca Gargano, with which the rum expert says no to plastic and chemicals. This 4-year-old sugar cane juice rum from the South African Mhoba distillery is produced without pesticides, fungicides, artificial enzymes or sweeteners. The bottle also has a wax cap instead of a plastic one. The rum aged in French red wine barrels and is bottled at a natural cask strength of 64.3%. The artisan rum distillery Mhoba, located in South Africa, was founded in 2015 by Robert Greaves. Every part of the distilling process takes place on-site, making Mhoba one of the rare few farm-to-bottle rum distilleries. Instead of the more common molasses, Mhoba rums are made from pure sugarcane juice of the Nkomazi variety, which are grown on a farm next to the distillery. The distillery’s pot still has a maximum reflux that creates heavy and exceptionally aromatic rums.
