It was founded in 2015 by Robert Greaves. Every part of the distilling process takes place on-site, making Mhoba one of the rare few farm-to-bottle rum distilleries. Instead of the more common molasses, Mhoba rums are made from pure sugarcane juice of the Nkomazi variety, which are grown on a farm next to the distillery. The distillery’s pot still has a maximum reflux that creates heavy and exceptionally aromatic rums. Fun fact: Mhoba means ‘sugarcane’ in the local siSwati language!
