Michter’s outdoes itself every year with its highly anticipated 10-year-old single barrel rye expression. The 2021 edition is a very limited release due to a shortage of maturing stock. This is barrel #L21E1532, bottled at 92.8 proof. Michter’s 10 Years Old Rye 2021 is a bold, rich and complex whiskey. Expect aromas of dark fruits, toasted marshmallow, caramel, almonds, baking spices, mint and tobacco leaf on the nose. The mouthfeel is warm and oily, with deep notes of toasted almonds, vanilla, cinnamon, orange zest, caramel, black sugar and tannic charred oak, leading to a long and warming finish with lingering hints of honey, marshmallow, toasted oak and spices. The Michter’s brand honors a historical legacy that traces back to 1753, when the Bomberger’s Distillery (later known as Michter’s), believed to be the oldest distillery in the United States, was established. Michter’s was resurrected in the 1990s by Joseph J. Magliocco and Dick Newman. While the company initially only bottled sourced bourbon, construction on a new distillery in Shively, Kentucky started in 2015 and it is expected that Michter’s will soon be releasing its own whiskey.
