At the beginning of the 20th century Irish Whiskey production suffered two terrible blows. The disasters of the Irish War of Independence and American Prohibition severely disrupted markets causing a near-fatal period of decline. The rebirth of Irish Whiskeys though is a story of exceptional vision, exceptional people and an exceptional whiskey. Middleton Very Rare was launched in 1984 so this Midleton Very Rare 1985 bottle is one of the very first releases and contains whiskey from the Old Midleton Distillery – almost impossible to find these days! It has hints of red apple, sandalwood and jasmine followed by cocoa beans and coffee. The palate has sweet spices, rich fruits, plum and cinnamon which gives way to a long, woody, spiced finish. An exceptionally rare Irish Whiskey of the finest quality. Please note that the Barry Crockett signature on the front label is not pristine.
