The Irish Midleton Distillery was built after John Power & Son, John Jameson & Son and the Cork Distilleries Company (which owned the Old Midleton distillery at the time) merged to form the Irish Distillers Group in 1966. Since 1975, all their brands are made at the new distillery, incuding this Midleton Very Rare 2007. The Very Rare range was created in 1984 by master distiller emeritus Barry Crockett. Since then, only Crockett and his follow up, master distiller Brian Nation, have selected the casks for this rare Irish whiskey. On their website, Midleton calls it the pinnacle of Irish Whiskey.
