The Midleton Very Rare 2020 is the last Very Rare edition bottled under supervision of Master Distiller Brian Nation. He was only the second Midleton Master Distiller to supervise this pinnacle of Irish whiskey, after the legendary Barry Crockett started it 36 editions earlier, in 1984. It’s been a long awaited yearly release for decades. It comes in a luxurious wooden display case and a bottle that was completely restyled in 2018. In that sense, it breaks with the tradition of the earlier releases. The Irish Midleton Distillery was built after John Power & Son, John Jameson & Son and the Cork Distilleries Company (which owned the Old Midleton distillery at the time) merged to form the Irish Distillers Group in 1966. Since 1975, all their brands are made at the new distillery, including this Midleton Very Rare 202020.
