Miltonduff 31 Years Old Duncan Taylor 1981 Cask #5094 is a single cask malt from the Miltonduff distillery, bottled by the renowned independent bottler Duncan Taylor. The whisky was distilled in November 1981 and matured for 31 years in cask #5094. It was bottled in September 2013 at 50%. Miltonduff was officially founded in 1824 by Andrew Peary and Robert Bain, although the distillery had been producing illicitly for years before that. Miltonduff changed hands several times over the next century, and in 1936 it was acquired by the Canadian giant Hiram Walker. They had purchased the Ballantine’s brand a year earlier and wanted to secure enough malt for their blends. Today Miltonduff is part of Pernod Ricard, and with a production capacity of 5.5 million litres it is one of the company’s largest distilleries. As the majority of Miltonduff’s production is used for blending purposes, official single malt releases are rare. Fun fact: between 1964 and 1981, Miltonduff also produced a lightly peated single malt called Mosstowie, using a pair of specially installed Lomond stills.
