After the Excise Act was passed, Mortlach became the first legal distillery in Dufftown building on top of the site of an old illegal still. By the 1860s the word about Mortlach’s top-notch whisky had spread so far that it could boast private customers from all over the UK and as far away as America, India, China and Australia. These days it is owned by Diageo, who releases a number of malts under the Mortlach name. What we have here though is a very special independent bottling by Gordon & MacPhail. They’ve brought to us this wonderful whisky which has been aging for 43 years in refill American hogshead #992. Mortlach 43 Years Old Gordon & MacPhail Private Collection 1978 Cask #992 has a nose of honey and citrus with hints of smoke, leather, tobacco and green apple. The palate has sweet lemon with honeydew, herbs and vanilla while the palate is long and zesty with a little floral note. Please note: it takes up two spaces in a parcel.
