Japanese whisky giant Nikka operates two distilleries: Yoichi, founded in 1934, and Miyagikyo, founded in 1969. Traditionally, Yoichi’s whisky is intense and smoky, while Miyagikyo produces a lighter fruity malt intended to provide a good balance for blends. With the limited-edition Nikka Discovery series, we’re given a unique look into an alternate dimension where Yoichi is the gentle and mellow one, and Miyagikyo is bold and peaty. Nikka Yoichi Non Peated 2021 has a rich mouthfeel and bright fruity notes, perfectly balanced with the distinctive smokiness generated by Yoichi’s coal-fired distillation.
