Oamaruvian 18 Years Old New Zealand Whisky is a blended whisky distilled at the legendary Willowbank Distillery in New Zealand, which closed in 1997. The whisky, consisting of 70% single malt and 30% premium grain whisky, first matured in American oak ex-bourbon casks for 6 years. It was then transported to the town of Oamaru where it spent another 12 years in French oak NZ wine barrels. After a total maturation of 18 years, it was bottled at 50% ABV by The New Zealand Whisky Collection, who had acquired Willowbank’s remaining barrels after the distillery’s closure. Willowbank, founded in 1974 by the Baker family, was the most southern distillery in the world. The Canadian giant Seagram bought the distillery in the 1980s, under whose leadership the company thrived. Willowbank was sold to the brewing company Fosters in the late 1990s, who shut it down not long after.
