Until 2003, the Ocean/Karuizawa Distillery produced blends for everyday use in addition to the famous single cask releases. This bottling was launched in 2003, to commemorate that the Hanshin Tigers won the 2003 Japanese baseball championship. It was the first time since 1985 that the team won and they only did it once thereafter, in 2005. This Ocean/Karuizawa Hanshin Tigers Blended Whisky holds 900ml and it was issued to bars only. It was never available in free trade.
In contrast to regulations in the USA and in Europe, whisky in Japan was allowed to be called whisky, even if the ABV was lower than 40%.
