Old Charter 7 Years Old 1980s

The Old Charter brand was created in 1874 by the brothers Adam and Benjamin Chapeze. They named their bourbon after the Charter Oak, a large white oak tree that grew on Wyllys Hyll in Hartford, Connecticut from about the 12th century until 1856, when it fell down during a violent storm. The name pays homage to the important role that white oak barrels play in the making of bourbon. Old Charter used to be a Schenley brand and was distilled at Old Bernheim. This specific bottle was made for the Italian market as you will see from the bi-coloured tax strip with the emblem of the Italian Republic and two additional stars. Today, it is made at Buffalo Trace. Old Charter 7 Years Old is a good ol’ bottling from this heritage brand.
