With the Old Forester brand coming out of a decline nationwide in the early 1990s, parent company Brown-Forman decided to breath some life in this bourbon. They launched the Old Forester Birthday Bourbon in the late 1990s as a premium bourbon. It commemorates distillery founder George Garvin Brown: each year on his birthday in September, a new release hits the market. This 2018 Old Forester Birthday Bourbon was drawn from 12 year old barrels from different warehouses and floors. A total of 120 barrels; 93 barrels matured together on the 3rd floor, on the Northwest side of Warehouse J. The remaining 27 barrels matured together on the 3rd floor, on the Northwest side of Warehouse I. The barrels are hand picked by Woodford Reserve Master Distiller and bourbon industry legend Chris Morris (Woodford Reserve is also a Brown-Forman brand).
