Don’t be too flabbergasted by the proof of this Kentucky Straight Whiskey, good sir. This Old Grand-Dad 70 Imperial Proof was bottled in 1977 by UK standards. 70 proof translates to 40% ABV, or 80 American proof. It was produced by National Distillers at the Old Grand-Dad Distillery in Frankfort. The grand-dad in question is the 18th-century distiller Meredith Basil Hayden Sr. His grandson, Raymond B. Hayden, created the brand in honor of him in the late 19th century. National Distillers produced Old Grand-Dad until Jim Beam took over the brand in 1987 and moved production to their facility.
