The original Old Pepper brand was introduced by Elijah Pepper during the American Revolution–hence the slogan ‘Born with the Republic’. A century later, Elijah’s grandson Colonel James E. Pepper built a new distillery in Lexington, Kentucky. The distillery was very successful before Prohibition, but fell into decline in the 1950s and closed not long after. Entrepreneur Amir Peay bought the historic James E. Pepper Distillery in 2008, and reintroduced the iconic Pepper whiskey to the world. Old Pepper 10 Years Old Barrel #L18L is a single barrel bourbon, sourced from the MGP Distillery in Indiana and hand-bottled by the team at the James E. Pepper Distillery in Lexington. The bourbon aged for 10 years in new white oak barrels and is bottled at 115.8 proof. On the nose, this high-rye whiskey has classic bourbon notes of warm vanilla, caramel, fresh oak and a touch of black pepper. The palate is crisp and warming with notes of caramel, toasted oak, tart cherries and cinnamon.
