About the Old Rip Van Winkle 10 Years Old 107 Proof (2012)
Old Rip Van Winkle is a 10-year-old bourbon, bottled in 2012 at 107 proof. Old Rip Van Winkle was originally distilled at the Stitzel-Weller distillery, but after its closure in 1992 production moved to Buffalo Trace. The label shows the brand’s namesake: Rip Van Winkle, the main character of a popular children’s story from 1819 (he’s the bearded old man who kind of looks like a wizard). The real-life Van Winkles resurrected their family’s pre-prohibition whisky brand in the 1970s. Whether there’s a connection between them and the character is unclear, but Old Rip sure is an iconic bourbon mascot.
