Old Rip Van Winkle 10 Years Old Very Special Stock Bottled For Leslie Easterbrook 1992

The story of Rip Van Winkle is a cautionary tale for all of us. Rip was a Dutch-American settler, living in colonial America just before the Revolutionary War. One day he was walking in the mountains with his dog, when we saw a man in old Dutch clothing carrying a keg up the mountain. Rip offers to help and at the top of the mountain, he sees a whole bunch of similarly dressed men playing nine pins. Rip has a sip from the keg and falls asleep. When he wakes up, his beard is a foot long, his gun is all rusty and his dog is nowhere to be found. He soon discovers that he’d been asleep for 20 years! In that time the US had fought and won the revolutionary war, his children had all grown up and he was now an old man. We’re not quite sure what the moral of this story is, but perhaps it’s best not to accept drinks from strangely dressed Dutchmen! The Old Rip Van Winkle brand was a product of the Stitzel-Weller distillery. Stitzel-Weller was closed down later that year and production was moved to Buffalo Trace so this bottle contains some of the last whisky filled at the old Stitzel-Weller. This specific bottle of Old Rip Van Winkle is a private selection for Leslie Easterbrook. Careful if you fall asleep when drinking, who knows WHEN you’ll wake up!
