The Old Rip Van Winkle brand was created at the legendary Stitzel-Weller distillery, but after its closure in 1992 production moved to Buffalo Trace. This bottle contains Buffalo Trace bourbon, matured for 10 years and bottled in 2016 at 107 proof. The bearded old man on the label is the brand’s namesake (no, it’s not Gandalf): Rip Van Winkle. Rip was the main character of a popular children’s story from 1819. Whether there’s a connection between him and the real-life Van Winkles is unclear.
