This bottle of 10-year-old Old Rip Van Winkle bourbon was bottled between 2002 and 2007 and exported for the UK by Amathus. Old Rip Van Winkle was originally distilled at the Stitzel-Weller distillery, but after its closure in 1992 production moved to Buffalo Trace. The brand gets its name from the main character of a popular short story from 1819: Rip Van Winkle. The real-life Van Winkles resurrected their family’s pre-prohibition whisky brand in the 1970s. Whether there’s a connection between them and the character is unclear, but Old Rip sure is an iconic bourbon mascot.
