Old Smuggler is an unusual blended Scotch whisky from the 1970s. Old Smuggler was introduced in 1835 by James & George Stodart Ltd in honor of the people who smuggled whisky during the 18th century. The company was acquired by Jimmy Barclay and R.A. MacKinlay in 1922, who made the brand especially popular in the United States during Prohibition. Hiram Walker took over James & George Stodart Ltd in 1936. Old Smuggler is still produced today, and the brand has been in the hands of the Italian Gruppo Campari since 2006.
