Orphan Barrel have been doing a stellar job of hunting down long lost barrels of bourbon and shining a light on these hidden gems. When they find a barrel they like, they take it to their state of the art bottling facilities in Tullahoma, Tennessee, crack it open and bottle up the good stuff so that we can enjoy it. This is their 5th release from the Rhetoric Series. Like the rest, this one was distilled in the New Bernheim distillery around the same time I.W. Harper was made there. The barrel was moved to Stitzel-Weller and was forgotten there, until this 24 Year Old Rhetoric got bottled in 2017. There is a new release every year from their remaining stock so that bourbon lovers can sample the subtle changes that happen with a little extra maturation. Orphan Barrel Rhetoric 24 Years Old has a smoky and leathery nose. The palate displays vanilla, oak, dried fruits and a touch of toasted rye. The finish shows bitter dark chocolate and cherry blossom.
