Port Askaig 30 Years Old is a well-matured Islay single malt, bottled by Speciality Drinks Ltd. Port Askaig is not a distillery: it is the name under which Caol Ila whisky is sometimes released by independent bottlers. It’s named after the village of Port Askaig on the coast of Islay, near the Caol Ila distillery. Caol Ila is the largest distillery on Islay. It was founded in 1846 by Hector Henderson, a distillery owner from Glasgow. Caol Ila is Gaelic for ‘Sound of Islay’ referring to the distillery’s location which overlooks, you’ve guessed it, the Sound of Islay. Caol Ila is currently in the hands of Diageo, and the distillery’s spirit is a key component of Diageo’s blends.
