In 1995, Bruichladdich was mothballed. The distillery was bought by Murray McDavid in December 2000, and returned to production the following year. Alongside its trademark unpeated single malt, the distillery now began producing a heavily peated malt. It can to become known as Port Charlotte, named in honor of a lost Islay distillery. The inaugural Port Charlotte bottling was released in 2006. Cuairt-Beatha, Gaelic for ‘The Walk of Life’, is the second release in the PC series, and is dedicated to the workers of the Bruichladdich distillery. Distilled in 2001, and matured for 6 years, in a combination of bourbon and Madeira casks. It was bottled in 2007 at a cask strength of 61.6%, with just 18000 bottles released. The tube features the stillmen Budgie and Neil.
