Port Ellen 22 Years Old McGibbon’s Provenance Winter Distillation 1983 is a rare single cask whisky from the fabled lost Islay distillery Port Ellen. The whisky was distilled in winter 1983, not long before the distillery closed, and matured for 22 years in sherry butt #2251. It was bottled in winter 2006 at 46%. On the nose, Port Ellen 22 Years Old McGibbon’s Provenance Winter Distillation 1983 has a lovely sherried fruitiness, joined by maritime and salty notes with a light peat smoke. Initially light on the palate, the whisky develops rich and warming notes of phenol, iodine, seaweed and salt. The finish lingers with pepper, smoke and old leather.
