Diageo’s annual Special Releases feature some of the most sought-after single malts in the world, and Port Ellen certainly fits that description. The Islay distillery has been closed since 1983 and is the highlight of each year’s Special Releases. Port Ellen 37 Years Old Diageo Special Releases 2016 marks the 16th time the distillery is included in the series. The single malt was distilled in 1978 and matured for 37 years, before being bottled at a natural cask strength of 55.2%. It is self-assured, well-integrated and hugely complex, with an excellent balance of sweet fruit notes, citrus, honey, smoke, fire and oak. One of 2940 bottles.
