Port Ellen Berrys’ Own Selection 1982 Cask #2469

Port Ellen was founded in the 1820s. It started out as a malt mill but was quickly developed into a distillery. Port Ellen was one of the many victims of the 80’s whisky crisis, and was shut down in 1983. Since then, the distillery’s remaining single malts have become some of the most coveted in the world. In 2017, Diageo announced that it would restore and reopen the Port Ellen distillery. Production is scheduled to start in 2023. Port Ellen Berrys’ Own Selection 1982 Cask #2469 is an independent single cask bottling by Berry Bros. & Rudd. The whisky was distilled in 1982 and matured for a quarter century in cask #2469, before being bottled in 2007 at 46%. The whisky has seductive aromas of leather tobacco pouches and carbolic soap. On the palate you’ll find notes of peat smoke and citrus orange, leading into a dry and satisfying finish.
