Ron Zacapa Centenario 23 Años is a special type of rum produced by Rum Creation and Products in Guatemala. The Ron Zacapa Centenario brand was created in 1976 to celebrate the centenary of the foundation of Zacapa, a town in eastern Guatemala. Instead of the usual molasses, Ron Zacapa is made from sugar cane, resulting in a sweeter and smoother rum. Don’t let the name mislead you: this rum is not 23 years old, but a blend of 6 to 23 year old rums. For newer bottles the brand was required to leave out the ‘Años’ and just call it ‘Ron Zacapa 23’. This older bottle comes in a unique petate, a traditional hand-woven cover made from palm leaves.
