Schenley is one of the big names from the American whisky making industry. The Schenley company was founded by Lewis Rosenstiel in the 1920’s. It was operated from the Empire State Building in New York. Schenley was one of few businesses that was allowed to make whisky during Prohibition. It was the only liquor that was made available to submarine officers at Midway in the second World War. It held in low regard and the brand also became known as ‘Schenley’s Black Death’. Not a bad move from the generals: make whiskey available to your troops and keep them happy. Make sure the stuff tastes like ass and keep them from drinking too much. Win-win. This is a blend from the 1960’s/1970’s.
