Japanese whisky business is booming for over a decade; each year seems to be better than the previous one. In 2016, all eye were on the newly opened Shizuoka distillery. They just bought three stills from the fabled, but closed Karuizawa distillery and made them into one (as they were a bit battered due to old age…). This Shizuoka Prologue K release is the very first Japanese single malt that came out of a Karuizawa still in ages. Only 5000 bottles of the Shizuoka Prologue K were released in December 2020. To no one’s suprise, they sold out immediately. It’s made for 50% from imported grain and for 50% from Japaese grain. It matured in ex-bourbon barrels.
