Indie bottler The Whisky Agency has cooked up another excellent single cask Springbank—this time a peated whisky, aka a Longrow. Springbank 21 Years Old The Whisky Agency 1996 was distilled in 1996 and aged for 21 years in a single hogshead. It was bottled in 2018 at 50.9%. The nose is elegant and mineral with aromas of lemon zest, chalk, peat, cold ashes, wool and red pepper. The whisky is oily and mouthcoating on the palate, revealing notes of minerality, lemon juice, peat, elderflower, chestnuts, sweet toffee and salt. The finish is gentle and oily with coffee, grain, lemon peel, honey and a touch of ginger.
