Chieftain’s Whisky by indy bottler Ian McLeod stands proudly at the head of the whisky clan with its range of rare and older bottlings of premium Scotch Whisky. This time they’ve come across this gorgeous 28 year old from the famous Springbank distillery. Springbank is well known for its 3 different expressions – Springbank, Longrow and Hazelburn. But before the decision was made in the late 80s to focus solely on their single malt production, a lot of Springbank ended up in blends. It’s a great treat to have an independently bottled Springbank single malt from before that time. Springbank 28 Years Old Chieftain’s 1975 Cask #1891 has a nose of minerals, lemon, herbs and dashes of orange and passionfruit. The palate shows banana, nuts and wax with a nice spicy component. The finish is long and citrusy. Only 186 bottles were released so this Chieftain won’t hang around for long.
