Cherry Cask, Chestnut Cask, Mulberry Cask? Those are some great casks that they have used for this giftpack! Strathearn, Scotland’s tiniest distillery, started their operation in 2013. Located in the village of Methven, close to Crieff in Highland Perthshire*, it occupies a set of former farm buildings. Production comes from an 800L wash still and a spirit still with a 400L charge. Even the casks are tiny, holding up to 50L (the industry standard is 200L). In common with many other new ‘craft’ start-ups, it produces gin and rum, as well as whisky. In October 2019, it was announced that independent bottler Douglas Laing & Co acquired Strathearn outright for an undisclosed sum – making it the company’s first distillery acquisition. Strathearn’s gin and rum products will still be available, under the ownership of The Whisky Garden. This Strathearn Uisge Beatha Gift Pack is a tasting-kit of the early days, with spirit that has aged in quite unusual casks.
