From our favourite eccentric indie bottler, That Boutique-y Whisky Company, comes this 28-year-old Tamdhu single malt. Batch 1 is made up of just 270 bottles. As to what’s going on with the label, the good folks at TBWC like their wordplay. Tamdhu is the last distillery in Scotland that still uses a Saladin box to malt its barley, so the label features Prince Saladin shadow-boxing in a boxing ring. The nose opens with aromas of dusty apples, grapefruit, sultanas, polished oak and almond pastries. Robust cinnamon, brandy butter and crisp barley show up in the background. On the palate, sherry and malt combine to bring flavours of estery fruit, barley sugars, oily walnuts, sweet cereals, dry fruitcake and polished oak, with hints of nutmeg and cinnamon. Some almond butter lingers on the resinous finish.
