Teaninich 20 Years Old Chieftain’s 1999 is a limited-edition single malt, bottled by Ian Macleod as part of the Chieftain’s range. The whisky was drawn from a single barrel laid down in March 1999, and bottled after two decades at 55%. Teaninich was founded in 1817, making it one of the earliest legal distilleries in Scotland. It was built by ‘Blind’ Captain Hugh Munro, a war hero who lost his sight during a battle in 1794. It’s said that he was a benign landowner who wanted to prevent his tenants from becoming involved in illegal distilling practices. In order to provide them with a local market for their grain, he founded the Teaninich distillery. The distillery is currently owned by Diageo, who uses the site mainly for their blends. One of 232 bottles.
