Japanese rum is up-and-coming, with the Helios Distillery leading the way with their Teeda Craft Rum. Fun fact: Helios is the Greek god of the sun, and ‘teeda’ is the Okinawan word for sun. Sunshine in a bottle! The distillery on the Japanese island Okinawa is a well-established whisky brand that occasionally ventures into rum. Helios started producing rum in 1961 for US soldiers stationed in Okinawa. At 21 years old, this Japanese rum is one of the oldest we’ve seen so far.
