Templeton Rye 6 Years Old Signature Reserve was distilled in 2010. It matured for six years in New American Oak barrels and was bottled in 2016 at 91.5 proof as part of Templeton Rye’s Signature Reserve series. During the prohibition era the residents of Templeton, a small town in Iowa, started illegally producing rye whiskey. It was popular in speakeasies and was even said to be Al Capone’s favorite, but when prohibition ended in 1933, the brand was forgotten. Until 2006, when Templeton Rye was revived by Keith Kerkhoff, the grandson of one of the original bootleggers. The whiskey is inspired by a prohibition-era recipe, is distilled in Lawrenceburg, Indiana and bottled in Templeton, Iowa. In 2018 Templeton Rye opened a new distillery in the brand’s hometown of Templeton.
