A single cask rum from the legendary closed Uitvlugt distillery in Guyana, bottled by the Belgian independent bottler Silent Ambassador. It was distilled in the Port Mourant still, which is one of the two original wooden pot stills that are still in use. It is over 250 years old! The rum was distilled in November 1997 and first matured for 2 years in a bourbon cask in the tropics. It was then transported to Europe, where it spent 20 years in a cognac cask. It was bottled in December 2019 at a cask strength of 51.4%. The Uitvlugt distillery was founded around 1750 and produced a heavy style rum. Over the years, Guyana’s many sugar estates started to close, and by 1970 there were only 11 sugar factories and 4 distilleries left. In 1975, the government started to privatize the remainder of them into one large distillery owned by the Guyana Liquor Corporation. Uitvlugt finally closed in 2000, and its stills were moved to the only remaining distillery in Guyana, the Diamond Distillery. Only 226 bottles of Uitvlugt 22 Years Old 1997-2019 Silent Ambassador have been released.
