Rye whiskey used to be the drink of choice in America. Before bourbon took over, rye was an abundant crop in the new American colonies and the immigrants coming over from Europe quickly began distilling on farms throughout the land. After a period in the shadow of its bigger brother bourbon, rye whiskey is making a big comeback thanks to distilleries like Whistlepig. Whistlepig 15 Years Old Straight Rye Whiskey spent a wonderful 15 years ageing in native Vermont Oak, grown right there on the estate! It has a nose of rich spices, vanilla, orange and caramel. The palate has flavors of banana, lime, butterscotch and leather. The finish is long with vanilla, berries, chocolate and a little touch of warm spice.
