A German export edition of the mysterious White Horse brand, which was based in London and Glasgow. The distillery that is most commonly connected with this whisky is Islay based Lagavulin, which makes White Horse Scotch Whisky all the more interesting. This is a rather unique ‘in between’ bottling, from the short period White Horse already worked with their new label (with the horse in the centre instead of on the left), but still had the old spring cap.
The White Horse label moved to the middle of the bottle in 1969/1970. And the spring cap was used till the early 60s and then for a very small period of the late 60’s. The back label on this bottle states a lovely message that was written in February 1754: ‘All that are desirous to pass fro Edinburgh to London, or any other place on their road, let them repair to the White Horse Cellar, in Edinburgh, at which place they may be received in a stage coach every Monday and Friday, which performs the whole journey in eight days (if God permits), and sets forth at five in the morning. Allowing each passenger 14 pounds weight, and all above, pence per pound.’ The famous White Horse Cellar Inn in Edinburgh was demolished in 1884.
