At a time when independent bottlers reign supreme, distilleries want to stay in control of their brands. One way that’s done is by ‘teaspooning’ the casks they sell: a tiny amount of malt from another distillery is added, so that the whisky cannot legally be called a single malt anymore. Teaspooned whisky from Laphroaig is called Williamson, after distillery manager and owner of Laphroaig between 1954 and 1972 Elizabeth ‘Bessie’ Williamson. Williamson Laphroaig 9 Years Old The Whisky Jury x Wine4You 2010 was bottled in June 2020 by The Whisky Jury for the Belgian spirits shop Wine4You. The whisky was distilled in November 2010 and aged for 9 years in refill barrel #twj-Lph02, which yielded 225 bottles at 53.1%. On the nose, Williamson Laphroaig 9 Years Old The Whisky Jury x Wine4You 2010 has aromas of warm smoke, ash, banana, citrus and eucalyptus. The palate is sweet and smoky with notes of caramel, liquorice, seaweed, salt and pepper, leading to a long finish with intense smoke and a hint of pepper.
