The whisky matured for 12 years in American, Spanish and Japanese oak casks and is bottled at 43% ABV. The Yamazaki distillery was built in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii, who had founded Suntory in 1899. It was the first malt whisky distillery in Japan and is appropriately known as the birthplace of Japanese whisky. The Yamazaki 12 Years Old was introduced in 1984, and was the first seriously marketed Japanese single malt. The expression is now enjoyed by whisky lovers all over the world.
