Saint Lucian Rum

Saint Lucia is one of the Windward Islands, located between Martinique and Saint Vincent. The Caribbean island was once a stronghold of sugarcane cultivation, but this has since made way for the banana industry and the last sugar processing plant on the island closed in the 1960s. With the disappearance of sugarcane, the centuries-old practice of rum distillation started to vanish too. The St Lucia Distillers Group of Companies was formed in 1972 when the last two remaining distilleries on the island, Dennery and Roseau Bay, merged. Production moved to the Roseau Bay Distillery in the scenic and agriculturally rich Roseau Valley. St Lucia Distillers sources its sugar cane molasses from Guyana. The company has managed to stay upright despite several hardships over the years, and now produces a large range of rum and rum products.
