Strathclyde Distillery

The Glasgow-based grain distillery Strathclyde was founded in 1927 by Seager Evans and Co. It initially supplied neutral grain spirit for gin. When Seager Evans purchased the Long John blend in 1936, the company entered the whisky market. Strathclyde was acquired by Schenley in 1956. Between 1958 and 1975, the distillery also produced a single malt released as Kinclaith. The Long John brand and the Strathclyde distillery were sold to Whitbread in 1975, who removed the Kinclaith equipment to make room for more grain whisky production. Strathclyde has been part of Pernod Ricard since 2005. There are no official bottlings, since the majority of the whisky is intended for blends, but due to the single grain’s high quality a number of independent releases are available.
