Trinidad Rum

For over 80 years the Caribbean island of Trinidad was home to the world-famous Caroni distillery, which produced a distinctive style of heavy rum. When the government closed Caroni in 2002, rum and bitters distiller Angostura remained the only producer of Trinidadian rum. Angostura’s house style is lighter and more delicate than that of Caroni. The company was founded in 1824 and moved to Trinidad in 1876. It produces an extensive range of rums and aromatic bitters, in addition to distilling rum for other brands all over the world. The majority of Caroni’s remaining stock is now in the hands of Velier, and the legendary rum is occasionally released by independent bottlers.
