Welsh Whisky

The history of distillation in Wales goes back to the early Middle Ages, but the art of whisky making was lost in the 20th century. The last notable distillery, the Welsh Whisky Distillery Company, was established at the end of the 19th century but had to close not long after due to the rise of the temperance movement. The Welsh whisky industry was revived in 2000 with the opening of the Penderyn distillery in the Brecon Beacons National Park in South Wales: the first commercial distillery operating in Wales in over a century. Whisky production in Wales has been steadily growing the last couple of years, and the country now counts six distilleries.
